The internal moderation role in St Helens Council will normally be undertaken by the Internal Moderation Panel (Moderation Panel). The Moderation Panel is responsible for considering all ASYE portfolios and evidence to support their progression from ASYE to Social Worker. The Panel will have a minimum of 3 members - 2 Heads of Service and the ASYE Co-Ordinator.

The key responsibilities are as follows:

  • The Panel is held monthly and is planned throughout the year.
  • The Chair will rotate between the Heads of Service
  • The Panel will quality assure the portfolios of the ASYE candidates from both Children's and Adult Services
  • The Panel will quality assure the documentation produced by the ASYE Assessors in line with guidance and prepare for panel
  • It is expected that both the Assessor and the ASYE social worker attend Panel for feedback and questions
  • The Panel is responsible for ratifying the outcome of the ASYE Internal Moderation Panel in respect of the candidate progressing from ASYE to Social Worker.
  • The Panel will oversee the quality of the ASYE assessors in terms of their training and development to fulfil the role
  • The Panel will collate data in relation to the number of ASYE assessments scrutinised at Panel and the outcome. This data is sent to the Cheshire & Merseyside Social Work Teaching Partnership on an annual basis.
