St Helens was graded as a 'Good' authority in July 2023.
Individual gradings were Good for CWLA and Leadership, Requires Improvement for Help and Protection and Outstanding for Care Leavers.
A Focus Visit was undertaken in April 2024 on Help and Protection with very positive feedback provided.

St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council - Ofsted Inspection Report
ILAC July 2023
OFSTED recognised that since the inadequate judgement in 2019, St Helens Children's Services had been on an improvement journey. The inspection identified areas for improvement however the overall outcome and comments received within the final report were really positive and evidenced the work undertaken since the previous ILAC inspection.
Focus Visit April 2024
OFSTED recognised that the areas highlighted for improvement in the ILAC inspection had been advanced by Senior Leaders and consistent development was being made in a timely way that supported improvements in outcomes for children.
We continue to focus on the feedback we receive in all inspections and peer reviews and ensure we are evidencing our continued development.
