Progression and Pathway to Promotion

As part of our dynamic learning culture, we also have a commitment to our social workers and growing our own leaders in the future. We prioritise training and workforce development to improve services for our children and families but also to support our practitioners in developing their practice and careers.

In order to be considered for progression, the social worker should have passed the ASYE, confirmed by Moderation Panel and has or is approaching at least 3 years post qualifying experience. The Team Manager and Social Worker should maintain a focus on development and progression within supervision and to consider the portfolio of evidence required to be considered by the Progression Panel. This will also be part of the Social Worker's My Conversation and learning plan.

The Progression Panel's role is to ensure that the social worker has provided sufficient evidence, supported by their Manager, that they are suitably experienced and skilled to progress to a Senior Social Worker role within the organisation. The focus of the evidence is on the ability of the Social Worker to manage a complex caseload of families to reduce risk and build resilience on an outreach and home visiting basis, to manage and progress plans to support children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection and Children we Look After plans, managing complex matters and enabling children to achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.

Further information is provided in respect of the Progression pathway and panel.

Before further information is provided in respect of the Progression Pathway and Panel. We have a clear focus on supporting our staff to progress and consider opportunities within the Service and Council throughout their career.
