Appraisal / My Conversation

In St Helens we call appraisals or personal development plans 'My Conversations' which also include My Time to Catch and Reflect as the review element. These conversations aim to support our vision for our workplace culture. We want to encourage employees to take ownership of their personal development and career aspirations. We want a workplace where continuous learning is at the heart of what we do, and people are trusted to have genuine performance development conversations on an ongoing basis.

My catch up conversation is an opportunity for employees to discuss their wellbeing, how they feel about work and their personal development requirements with their manager. In Children's Social Care this is in addition to Supervision which is held regularly. The My Conversation is held at the start of the year and My Time to Reflect and Plan is held 6 months later to review the plan. The review process focuses on the employees performance, progress and career and personal development aspirations. Both conversations are supported by an online form in My Learning.
